Island Health declares five COVID outbreaks over; no new outbreaks

Five COVID-19 outbreaks in Island Health have been declared over, with no new outbreaks in the health authority.

The outbreaks in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on the fourth and fifth floors have both been declared over.

The fourth floor outbreak, which was declared on Jan. 27, had 26 patients test positive as part of the outbreak.

The fifth floor outbreak, which Island Health says was a separate outbreak from the fourth floor, was declared on Jan. 26. This outbreak resulted in 18 patients testing positive.

Berwick on the Lake long-term care home in Nanaimo had 11 residents test positive in the outbreak which ended today. The outbreak was initially declared on Feb. 1.

Tsawaayuus Rainbow Gardens long-term care home in Port Alberni also had 11 residents test positive during the outbreak, which was also declared on Feb. 1.

The outbreak at the Harbour Side unit at Chemainus Health Care Centre long-term care home is now over, with five residents attributed to the outbreak. The initial outbreak was declared on Feb. 3.

The outbreak protocols at these facilities have now ended.
