Island Health declares COVID-19 outbreak at long-term care home in Nanaimo

An outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at a long-term care facility in Nanaimo.

Island Health says in a statement to CHEK News that an outbreak was declared on Monday at the long-term care unit at Berwick on the Lake, located on Ross Road near Wellington Secondary School.

The health authority says two residents have tested positive and that the outbreak declaration is only for the long-term care unit.

No other information was provided about the outbreak.

The B.C. government’s press release announcing COVID-19 figures for Feb. 1 also noted that an outbreak had been declared at Berwick on the Lake, but no other information about the outbreak was provided.

Meanwhile, outbreaks at Royal Jubilee Hopsital and Comox Valley Seniors Village have been declared over.
