RDN issues evacuation alert for areas in Nanaimo, Parksville due to flooding risk

Residents living in areas of Nanaimo and Parksville are being urged to evacuate due to possible flooding.

Residents living in areas of Nanaimo and Parksville are being urged to evacuate due to possible flooding.

The Nanaimo Regional District has issued evacuation alerts for residents living at 1698 Wilkinson Rd. in Nanaimo and 380 Martindale Rd. in Parksville due to rising water levels on the Nanaimo and Englishmen rivers.

The evacuation alert for Wilkinson Road includes properties in the 1600 and 1700-blocks of Wilkinson Road as well as properties on Alice Road and Riverside Road. Wilkinson Road is located south of the Duke Point Highway, near the Nanaimo River.

Meanwhile, the evacuation alert for Martindale Road covers properties located within Parry’s RV Park, which is just north of Parry’s Park Road. The area is located south of Island Highway East, near the Englishman River in Parksville.

The regional district says both areas are at risk of flooding and those who do experience flooding are urged to contact the Emergency Operation Centre at 1‐800‐862‐3429.
