COVID-19 cannot stop a long-held Victoria Christmas tradition from taking place.

The 42nd annual Tuba Christmas — a big brass tradition featuring tuba and euphonium players belting out holiday classics for the Times Colonist’s Christmas Fund  — will take place today at 4 p.m.

You can watch it by clicking here or visiting CHEK’s Facebook page.

This year’s event is being streamed live from the University of Victoria’s Farquhar Auditorium — due to the pandemic — and is hosted by CHEK’s Tess van Straaten.

It will also feature prerecorded messages from Victoria’s Mayor Lisa Helps and Bradley Dick, who is of Lekwungen, Ditidaht and Da’naxda’xw ancestry. The Times Colonist’s Jack Knox will share a Christmas story and tenor Benjamin Butterfield, associate chair of UVic’s School of Music, will read a poem.

For more information and to donate to the Times Colonist Christmas Fund, visit timescolonist.com/donate, which will take you to the Canada Helps website, which is open 24 hours a day and provides an immediate tax receipt.
