BC Transit hopes to Stuff the Bus with goodies for those in need this Decemeber

BC Transit’s annual Stuff the Bus event is back on in Greater Victoria.

It was previously cancelled due to provincial health orders, but after Monday’s announcement from B.C.’s top doctor, it’s up and running again as events for donations are now allowed to proceed with appropriate safety measures.

The hope for Stuff the Bus is to fill a transit bus to the brim with goodies, ranging from non-perishable foods, new and unwrapped toys and clothing, as well as cash.

Cash donations will be accepted contact-free, by being deposited by donators in the collection boxes, available on-site during the event.

All donations will go to The Mustard Seed Food Bank and The Salvation Army’s Stan Hagen Centre for Families.

“BC Transit is pleased to be able to help support our local communities across the province, especially given the impact of COVID-19 on the communities we serve in 2020,” said the company in a release on Friday.

Following BC Transit’s COVID-19 safety protocols, additional safety measures are being taken for the Stuff the Bus event.

Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to wear a mask and keep their distance from others.

Instead of boarding the bus and placing the donation in the vehicle yourself, you are now asked to simply drop off the gift at the location. Volunteers adorned with PPE and sanitizers will place it for you.

BC Transit ensures all surfaces will be sanitized and cleaned regularly, and volunteers will remain six feet apart from everyone else.

If any more public health orders come in, BC Transit says it will adjust accordingly.

When and Where?

Donations will be accepted at the Save-on-Foods located at the Tillicum Centre on Saturday, December 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
