Canoes, kayaks and other small leisure craft took to waters on Saturday to protest the TMX pipeline.

Activists led by local group Rise and Resist gathered in Banfield Park on Saturday to protest against the Trans Mountain pipeline project.

The activists took canoes, kayaks, and other small boats into the water, displaying a 64 foot long floating banner that read “No Consent, No Pipeline.”

“We don’t believe that we should be furthering advancement of fossil fuels into the future when we so desperately need to act on climate change,” said Rise and Resist member Terry Taylor.

The event included a community meal, with proceeds going to fund a legal challenge by First Nations against the Trudeau government’s promise to continue the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion.
