Investigators are searching through soil at S.J. Willis school in Victoria where a body was found on Tuesday in what is being considered a suspicious death.
Police were on the school grounds Friday morning excavating, sifting and searching for evidence. Part of the area is still cordoned off by police tape.
“We are continuing an exhaustive search for any evidence around the school grounds in relation to the recovery. This includes the search of nearby soil and areas partially concealed by the growth of brush and vegetation,” Cpl. Tammy Douglas of Island District RCMP said in a statement.
“Investigators are taking a methodical approach during their examination to ensure a thorough search is completed. This will continue until complete.”
On Thursday, police were conducting grid searches along Topaz Avenue. Officials say it does not appear the public is at risk.
Investigators have been at S.J. Willis and Topaz Avenue since Tuesday following a report of a sudden death. While the death has been deemed suspicious, the identity of the deceased person and the cause of death have not been released.
