Campbell River RCMP have seized a small quantity of illicit drugs and some stolen property following a response to a noise complaint made on Aug. 30.

According to a police report, officers received an excessive noise complaint just after midnight early Sunday morning.

The complaint was towards a residence near Willowcrest Road and Dogwood Street – a house known to police.

Officers responded to the complaint and when they arrived on the scene, a stolen motorbike was found in the open garage.

That propelled Campbell River RCMP to seek and execute a warrant for the property.

Police said upon executing the warrant, they were able to seize a small number of illicit drugs, two stolen motorcycles and some sports memorabilia that had been recently stolen from a storage trailer.

In addition to the stolen property and drugs, police found “a several thousand dollar stash of cash.”

RCMP say an investigation is currently ongoing, however, a 34-year-old man from Campbell River could be facing drug trafficking and possession of stolen property charges.

It’s always great when we can recover people’s stolen property and get it back to them, said Cst Maury Tyre.

It shows how something as small as a noise complaint can lead to something much more severe in everyday police work. It also shows that when the community takes part and reports suspicious or odd activities, it enables police to be active in dealing with problem locales. So really the neighbourhood deserves credit for this success as well.

Just a day later, another incident involving a hammer attack led police to a separate house where several grams of methamphetamine and various stolen goods were seized from an executed warrant.

Police continue to ask the public to report any suspicious activity by calling the Campbell River RCMP non-emergency line at 250-286-6221.
