Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a break-and-enter incident where approximately $40,000 worth of Canadian silver coins were stolen from a storage locker.

Nanaimo RCMP is investigating a break-and-enter incident where approximately $40,000 worth of Canadian silver coins were stolen from a storage locker.

In a police report issued on Thursday, officers said the theft occurred in an apartment building storage locker located in the 6000-block of McRobb Avenue. The incident is said to have taken place sometime on Sunday, September 27.

According to Nanaimo RCMP, investigators have learned that the main door of the storage area was pried open. Police indicate that multiple storage lockers were forced open with a variety of items taken. RCMP said the most notable items allegedly stolen from lockers were a Ruger MK .22 calibre 111 semi-automatic target pistol with serial number 27445686 and the silver coins.

The police report suggests that there were a total of 1025 “Canadian Silver Maple Leaf one-ounce coins” taken during the break-and-enter. Police have added that the value of the stolen coins is estimated at $40,000.

Nanaimo RCMP is asking anyone with possible information on this incident to please call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2020-35576.
