Approximately 100 residents were evacuated from a Langford apartment building on Thursday following a fire.

In videos received by CHEK News, a significant amount of flames could be seen engulfing an upper section of the residential building, located at 844 Goldstream Ave.

According to the City of Langford, Langford Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire at 844 Goldstream Ave (Evo West) at approximately 1:15 p.m. Colwood and View Royal Fire Departments also responded.

Police said Thursday afternoon the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this time. Langford FireRescue will be investigating what the exact cause of the fire was.

All residents and pets were safely evacuated, and firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in a timely matter, according to the city. The building has 48 units in total and is home to approximately 100 residents.

All residents of Evo West are required to check in with Emergency Social Services (ESS) at the Royal Canadian Legion (#91 Langford Branch) located at 761 Station Ave, the city said. This is required even for those who do not need immediate assistance with accommodation or other necessities so that they can be kept up to date with the latest information.

If necessary, residents are currently allowed to return to the building to collect their essential belongings. Residents are not permitted to remain in the building tonight. ESS will be providing those in need with alternative accommodation and gift cards for food and other necessities. If residents require transportation to the Legion, they are asked to submit their receipt to ESS for future reimbursement.

Residents with questions regarding accommodation or other immediate needs are asked to speak with ESS at the Legion. This evening, Firm Property Management, the company that manages the Evo West building, will be providing a statement to residents at the Legion, the city said.

Ground floor business tenants of Evo West are asked to contact Firm Property Management with their inquiries.

As a result of the blaze, Goldstream Avenue between Jacklin Road and Peatt Road was shut down as firefighters put out the fire.
