West Shore RCMP say the driver who rear-ended the 2021 Subaru Forrester was a prohibited driver and will face charges.

A crash on the Malahat on Jan. 6 was the result of a prohibited driver failing to stop as traffic slowed on the road, according to West Shore RCMP.

The driver of a 2007 Chrysler Sebring rear-ended a 2021 Subaru Forrester with such force that the Forrester ended up on top of the roof of the Sebring.

In a release, RCMP say the driver of the Sebring who rear-ended the other vehicle on the Malahat was a prohibited driver and will be facing charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

“This collision shut the highway down in both directions for approximately an hour while crews worked to clear the scene causing delays for hundreds of commuters on a busy Friday afternoon,” Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP media relations officer said in a news release. “Remarkably no injuries were reported in this collision.”

BC Emergency Health Services confirmed it was called to the crash just before 3 p.m. and one ambulance responded, but paramedics did not transport any patients to hospital.
