ICBC releases list of top 10 crash intersections on Vancouver Island: report

ICBC has released a new report outlining collision statistics, including the top 10 crash intersections on Vancouver Island.

According to the report, the intersection with the most collisions in 2022 was where Aulds Road and Hammond Bay Road meet the Island Highway in Nanaimo, with 61 crashes.

McKenzie Avenue’s on and off ramps to the Pat Bay Highway in Saanich ranked number two on the list with 60 crashes.

Courtenay’s Ryan Road also cracked the top three, with 59 collisions where the road meets the Island Highway.

The report indicates there were 10,559 collisions at Island intersections last year, which is above the five-year average of 10,500.

Of the 10,559 collisions, there were 5,161 reported injuries.

The report also provided a snapshot of collisions involving cyclists, motorcycles and pedestrians.

In 2022, there were 420 incidents involving cyclists across Vancouver Island, down from 426 the year before.

Incidents involving motorcycles jumped from 397 in 2021 to 416 in 2022.

Crashes involving pedestrians also rose by 12 incidents in 2022, from 363 to 377.
