An established neighbourhood pub in Victoria will be closing its doors permanently after a development company purchased the property.

Abstract Developments, a Victoria-based firm has purchased the 1075 Tillicum Road property and plans on redeveloping the current site, which houses the Gorge Pointe Pub.

The “best-loved neighbourhood pub,” according to the Gorge Pointe Pub’s website, has been serving the Victoria community for over 100 years, however, it will close its doors at the end of the year.

There were efforts between the two sides in order to extend the pub’s lease, however, Abstract says the firm will opt to redevelop the corner.

Prior to the finalized plans for the development, Abstract intends to reach out to local residents in the coming weeks in order to “solicit thoughts” about what residents would like to see included in the neighbourhood.

“It’s important we hear from the members of the immediate community in order to understand what is important to them as we move forward with our application”, said Mike Miller, President and CEO of Abstract Developments.

“This location along the Gorge waterway makes it an attractive site to both live and access nearby services,” Miller added.

The property was purchased by Abstract Developments last year.

It is a total of .59 acres and is located across the street from Esquimalt Gorge Park and the Gorge Vale Golf Club.
