Central Saanich Police say they have identified the body of an elderly man who was discovered on a beach in Central Saanich.

Authorities say the 76-year-old lived in the area and his family has been notified, but his name has not been made public.

Police along with the B.C. Coroners Service continue to look into the cause of his death.

A woman paddleboarding spotted the man in distress in Newman Road Park around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

When she approached the body, the man was unresponsive and attending paramedics could not revive him.

Central Saanich fire also attended the call.
