UPDATE: Body of man in his 70s discovered in waterfront park in Central Saanich

UPDATE: The BC Coroners Service confirms it is investigating the death of a man in his 70s.

Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a waterfront park in Central Saanich on Wednesday evening.

Investigators say a woman out paddle boarding noticed the man in distress in Newman Road Park,  near Mt Newton Crossroad, around 6:30 p.m.

She investigated and found the man was unresponsive, paramedics attended but police say he could not be revived.

“Central Saanich Police is investigating the death of a male, who is as yet unidentified,” said Sgt. Greg Johnson.

“(He) was on foot at the bottom of Newman Road Park.”

Investigators are asking anyone with more information to please contact Central Saanich Police.
