A motorist caught running a stop sign in Oak Bay allegedly asked the responding officer if they wanted to be on a popular social media app.

Oak Bay Police say one of their officers pulled over a motorist for failure to stop a stop sign near King George Terrace and Beach Drive at around 10 p.m. on Feb. 20.

When the officer approached the vehicle, police say the driver allegedly asked the officer if they would “like to be on TikTok?”

The officer then investigated the driver, a 20-year-old man, for impaired driving, which resulted in the man’s vehicle being towed and his licence suspended for 24 hours.

He was also given a $167 ticket for failing to stop at a stop sign and a $230 ticket for operating a motor vehicle with cannabis in it.
