7 run for councillor in Sayward, mayor acclaimed

Seven people have put their names forward to be councillor in Sayward, and the mayor has been acclaimed to his role.

Mark Baker, the incumbent mayor, is one of 11 mayors on Vancouver Island who were acclaimed to their role.

Advance voting will take place on Oct. 5, and general voting will take place on Oct. 15. Both days will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Kelsey Centre. Voters can also request to vote by mail.

There are four councillor seats up for election.

There are two councillors seeking re-election, Sue Poulsen and Tom Tinsley.

Scott Burchett, Kohen Gilkin, David Malinski, Mary Malinski, and Mike Marsh are seeking a councillor seat as well.

The school trustee seat in the Campbell River School District has been acclaimed as well.

In 2018, 114 voted for a voter turnout of 46.3 per cent.
