A woman has suffered head and facial injuries after she was randomly attacked in the James Bay area over the weekend, according to Victoria Police.

Police say the incident took place on Saturday, April 30 at approximately 10 p.m. in the 400-block of Simcoe Street.

A woman was out walking her dog when a man pushed her from behind into the corner of a building. Police say that the push resulted in the woman striking the building face-first, resulting in lacerations and additional head injuries.

As the woman lay on the ground, police say the the suspect searched through her pockets, before fleeing the scene, however, the man did not steal anything from the victim.

The suspect in the incident is described as an approximately 50-year-old man, standing six feet tall with a slim build. He had grey hair and was wearing a blue or green jacket at the time of the incident.

The woman reported the incident to police earlier this week after she attended the hospital due to her experiencing additional symptoms from the head injuries she sustained. At this time, her injuries are considered non-life-threatening but continue to impact her well-being.

Officers are continuing to investigate the incident and are searching the area for surveillance video.

If you have information about this incident, have video from the area of the 400-block of Simcoe Street from that time frame, or recognize the suspect description, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.
