Oak Bay police say a man is facing a trio of charges following a break-and-enter at a home, where a witness said the burglar had a firearm, which turned out to be a replica.
Around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, police were called to a report of an in-progress break-in at a residence in the 300 block of Beach Drive.
“The witness advised that a male was breaking into the home and was in possession of a firearm,” said Oak Bay police in a news release Monday.
When officers arrived, they spotted the man through a window and later learned he had broken a window beside the front door to gain access to the home.
According to the release, officers gave verbal commands to the man, 57, who followed police direction and was arrested for break-and-enter. Police then searched the home and found an imitation gun, or BB gun, by the front door.
The man was held in custody for a bail hearing the following morning, and he’s since been charged with break-and-enter, possession of an imitation firearm, and mischief under $5,000, according to Oak Bay police.
He has a May 15 court date.
