Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Inland Vancouver Island regarding a low pressure system that is expected to hit Tuesday morning.

Windy weather is expected on Tuesday for Inland Vancouver Island including Greater Victoria and the Gulf Island.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Inland Vancouver Island, Victoria and the Gulf Islands regarding a low pressure system that is expected to hit Tuesday morning.

The weather agency says the system will result in windy weather for the Greater Victoria, Gulf Islands and widespread areas of Vancouver Island.

“Winds abruptly transition from southeasterly to strong and gusty westerlies. Winds will rise to 50 to 70 km/h Tuesday morning for Vancouver Island,” said Environment Canada, noting that strong westerly winds will be widespread and the exact location of the strongest winds will depend on the “track and depth” of the low system.

For Greater Victoria, Environment Canada says winds are expected to be 40 km/h from the southeast, except near the Haro Strait, where they are expected to reach 60 km/h on Tuesday morning.

By late morning, winds will start becoming southwest, with speeds increasing to 50 km/h and gusting to 80 km/h.
In the evening, winds will be 50 km/h from the southwest, gusting to 80 km/h. Eventually, winds will come from the west, where they will reach speeds of 30 km/h, gusting to as high as 50 km/h.
