WHO says more than 316,000 new COVID-19 cases reported worldwide in past 24 hours

There were more than 316,000 new cases of COVID-19 reported worldwide in the past 24 hours, says the World Health Organization.

According to the WHO, a total of 316,884 new cases of the deadly virus were reported to them on Sept. 26, bringing the worldwide total number of infections to 32.4 million.

There were also 5,786 new deaths reported to WHO in the past 24 hours, meaning the worldwide total number of deaths now stands at 985,823.

India, the United States, Brazil, France, Argentina, Spain, Israel, Russia, the United Kingdom and Colombia had the highest number of new infections in the last 24 hours.

After nearly two weeks of reporting more than 90,000 cases a day, the world’s second-most populated nation has seen a slight decline in daily cases recently. India reported 85,362 new infections on Saturday. Although it was the highest daily increase of any nation, it was the fifth straight day of less than 87,000 new cases for India.

The country with the second-highest number of new cases reported to the World Health Organization on Saturday was the United States, which reported 41,254 new cases.

Brazil, had the third-highest number of new cases, reporting 32,817 cases, while France, which has recently seen a surge in new infections, reported 15,613 new cases.

Argentina reported its highest-ever single-day increase in new cases, with 13,467 new cases.

Spain was the only other nation in the past 24 hours to record more than 10,000 new infections, reporting 12,272 cases.

Israel and the United Kingdom also recorded their highest single-day increase of new infections ever on Saturday, reporting 8,022 and 6,873 new cases respectively.

Russia reported 7,523 new cases Saturday, marking the second-straight day of more than 7,000 new infections.

Colombia, where new cases have been trending downwards since mid-August, reported 6,555 new cases on Saturday, the tenth highest daily increase of any nation in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Canada reported 1,341 new cases and six deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the World Health Organization
