The United States and Brazil reportedly slightly less than 1,250 new deaths from COVID-19, followed by India and Mexico, who reported more than 800 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

In its media release, the World Health Organization also said a plane carrying 20 tonnes of medical supplies has landed in Lebanon to help support the treatment of patients injured in a massive explosion in the country’s capital on Aug. 4. They noted that Lebanon, which has reported just under 6,000 cases of COVID-19, is facing multiple challenges including an economic crisis and civil unrest in addition to COVID-19.

“This latest emergency has occurred at a time of recent civil unrest, economic crisis, the COVID-19 outbreak and heavy refugee burden,” the organization noted.
