Police on the West Shore are investigating after a security guard was punched in the face at a local hospital on Halloween.

According to a West Shore RCMP press release, a female security guard was helping staff at Victoria General Hospital in View Royal deal with an aggressive patient in the very late hours of Oct. 31.

While the guard was assisting staff, the patient allegedly punched her in the face, causing her to require medical attention.

The release notes that officers were called to VGH in the early hours of Nov. 2.

Details about the suspect were not provided in the release but West Shore RCMP say the incident is an example of the dangers hospital staff face on a daily basis.

“This incident highlights the risks and dangers that staff in hospital are faced with everyday”, says Const. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the West Shore RCMP. “The RCMP is committed to keeping everyone safe and will continue to support our health care workers in their challenging and exhausting duties.”
