West Shore RCMP are hoping to return a “large sum” of cash to its rightful owner after it was turned over to police last month.

The cash, valued between $150 and $3500, was found loose on the ground in the 600-block of Goldstream Avenue around four weeks ago, RCMP said in a Monday release.

“Thank you to the woman who found the cash and brought it to the detachment in hopes of finding the rightful owner,” said West Shore RCMP spokesperson Const. Meghan Groulx.

It follows a similar incident in Nanaimo, after a wad of cash, valued between $200 and $2,000, was found lying on a sidewalk sometime in June, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

However, Groulx tells CHEK News there’s no indication the two incidents are related.

If you recently lost a significant amount of money, call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, and quote file 2022-9473.
