Natural Hair Salon is hoping to raise $1,000 for victims of an explosion in Beirut earlier this month.

A hair salon in the heart of Victoria set up a fundraiser today to help people halfway around the world.

Natural Hair Salon, located on View Street in downtown Victoria, is holding a fundraiser called Beauty for Beirut, in an effort to raise money for the victims of an enormous explosion in the Lebanese city earlier this month.

On Aug. 4, more than 125 people were killed and thousands injured following a massive explosion at a port in Beirut. At least 300,000 people are now homeless and according to UNICEF, nearly 80,000 children have been displaced.

As a result, Natural Hair Salon has decided to donate 100 per cent of the proceeds from purchases made either online or in-store today to Doctors Without Borders in Beirut.

Natalie Grunberg-Ferreira, the salon’s co-owner and general manager, said the salon had hoped to raise $500 but decided to increase it to $1,000.

“Well, my initial goal was $500 because I wanted to make it a reasonable amount but we’ve actually had clients donate money,” she said.

The salon is also hoping other businesses will follow suit and organize similar fundraisers helping those out in Beirut.

Natural Hair Salon is located on View Street near Government Street. Purchases can be made online at www.thenaturalhairsalon.com.
