The Victoria Police Department is seeking a victim and witnesses of a hate crime on a BC Transit bus that occurred in late November.

In a police report issued on Tuesday, it says that the incident took place on Saturday, Nov. 28 in the early afternoon.

Patrol officers received a report that a man caused a disturbance and yelled racial slurs toward a Black man on a BC Transit Bus.

According to police, a suspect boarded the #15 bus at Yates St. and Quadra St.

Police say the suspect “began targeting the lone Black man on the bus with racial slurs for several minutes,” before leaving the vehicle.

The incident was reported to police by a witness who was on board the bus during the time of the hate crime.

Police are still searching for the victim, who has not come forward to speak with officers.

CCTV footage has been obtained by Victoria Police and officers have identified the suspect.

VicPD is saying, however, that they need to speak with the victim in order to continue the investigation.

Police are asking for the victim as well as any other witnesses of the offence to contact VicPD’s non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654, extension 1.

To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
