Police have arrested a man in connection with the seizure of a handgun at a temporary housing facility in Victoria.
Shortly before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, Patrol officers, working with the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT), executed the search warrant on a suite in a multi-unit residential temporary housing facility in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street.
Officers located a .32 calibre revolver in their search.
The occupant of the suite — a man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants — was not located at the time the warrant was executed.
A day later, patrol officers located the suspect in the 3000-block of Blanshard Street. The man attempted to flee from officers on a bicycle, however, officers gave chase on foot and took the man into custody after a brief struggle.
Police say the outstanding warrants the man was wanted on include drug-related offences, possession of stolen property over $5,000 dollars, break-and-enter equipment, identity documents and breach of a release order.
He was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and police say that he will be held in custody after he is discharged.
