Victoria police have arrested a 35-year-old man accused of child luring after he allegedly sent inappropriate texts and provided alcohol to a teenage girl.

Police say they were contacted by a concerned father on Jan. 29 who learned the suspect gave free alcohol to his daughter and her friend.

“The man was not known to the family and did not have any other relationship with the youth,” police said.

Upon investigating, officers then learned the suspect had also allegedly sent “lewd and inappropriate text messages” to the girl along with providing her other free items, which officers believed were part of grooming her for a sexual purpose.

The man was located and arrested the evening of Feb. 1, police said in a news release.

He was transported to police holding cells and later released with a court date and conditions. Police say they are recommending charges including child luring, making sexually explicit material available to a child and sexual interference.

Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call them at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
