A Victoria couple says they will take on new adventures after winning $1 million dollars in  last Wednesday’s Lotto 6/49 draw.

Virginia and Donald Johnson matched all 10 numbers for the May 29 lottery to win the guaranteed million-dollar prize.

“The first person I told was my husband,” Virginia said in a release from the BC Lottery Corporation (BCLC) Monday.

“I noticed the guarantee winner, so I checked it. Don was downstairs, and I think he asked if I was telling the truth and if I was going to check on it right away.”

The couple moved to Victoria for retirement 30 years ago and Virginia said with a laugh that they’ve been buying the 6/49 tickets since the draw started.

“I never dreamed we would win one of the big ones,” Virginia said

“I don’t think this changes my life, it gives me freedom – we have more freedom in our choices.”

The Johnson’s say they will use the winnings to continue to travel around the world.

“We want to go on these river cruises that travel through different countries,” Donald said.

“To me it’s amazing. I think it will really set in when I get that cheque.”

The BCLC says more than $115 million redeemed by Lotto 6/49 players in B.C. in 2018.
