Victoria police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose after a man allegedly pointed a replica assault rifle at another person.

Police were called to a multi-unit temporary housing facility in the 1900-block of Douglas Street (the location of Paul’s Motor Inn) just after 12 a.m. Tuesday for a report that a man had pointed an assault rifle at someone.

Police said when officers arrived, they found the victim, who described the rifle as resembling an “AK-47”.

The victim told police that the suspect had brandished the rifle in the building parking lot and had threatened him. Police said the victim was not physically injured in the incident.

Victoria police said officers searched the area and evacuated a nearby group of people for their safety.

VicPD then located both the suspect and the rifle.

The suspect was arrested without incident. The rifle is a replica M4 carbine, police said.
