Victoria Police say three people have been arrested after several pedestrians were sprayed with bear spray Monday morning, and investigators are seeking more information about the incident.

Just before 3 a.m. on May 23, officers were called to the area of Douglas and Yates for reports that occupants of a black Mercedes vehicle had sprayed pedestrians with bear spray.

The occupants sprayed pedestrians as they drove past, then fled.

Officers found four victims of the random attack and two had to be treated by paramedics.

Other officers found the suspects near Government and Fisgard streets and the three male occupants were arrested for assault with a weapon and taken to VicPD cells, then later released with a court date, and unspecified conditions.

VicPD say it is believed there may be additional victims or witnesses who haven’t yet spoken with police and are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654, extension 1. To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
