The Victoria Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who broke into an underground parkade and allegedly stole around $2000 worth of property.

In a police report, investigators state they received a report on Saturday, September 19 of the break and enter, which occurred overnight on the 1000-block of View Sreet.

Police said the victim reported that someone had broken into both their vehicle and storage locker, stealing a couple thousand dollars worth of property.

According to the victim, the stolen items included cycling gear, bicycle wheels, tools and other items.

Security footage captured in the underground parkade shows the suspect entering the building by following a vehicle on foot.

“This is a method of entry commonly used by property criminals,” reads a statement from Victoria Police.

The suspect is described by police as a 30 to 40-year-old Caucasian man standing approximately five feet, ten inches tall, with a slim build.

The suspect wore a dark hooded sweater, toque, dark pants with reflective markings on the lower leg and carried a black and yellow backpack.

Earlier this week, VicPD revealed that break and enters to underground parkades have risen 40 percent in 2020 for the time period of January 1st to September 14th compared to 2019. In 2019 there were 137 underground parkade break and enters for that time period. In 2020 there have been 194 underground parkade break and enters to date.
