Victoria police say two officers had non-life threatening injuries during a struggle to bring a man into custody early Sunday morning.

VicPD received a call just after 6 a.m. of a man acting erratically at the intersection of Blanshard Street and Burdett Avenue, who allegedly was jumping on vehicle hoods and tried to get inside a City of Victoria public works vehicle.

Police say when officers arrived, the man tried to climb on top of their patrol vehicle.

According to a release Monday morning, the officers used Crisis Intervention and De-escalation (CID) techniques to resolve the situation, but the man began fighting the officers who then worked to arrest him.

Police say a conducted energy weapon was used during the struggle but had no effect.

VicPD says the officers eventually were able to take the man into custody but were injured in the process, but were able to return to duty.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment for mental health concerns and was not injured.
