Victoria police are reminding drivers to plan ahead when celebrating the holidays and that the Impaired Driving Counterattack campaign is in effect after a driver was arrested last week with a breath sample nearly four times the legal limit.

Just before midnight on Friday, Dec 8, VicPD received a report of a hit-and-run incident that happened in the 1300-block of Balmoral Road. A witness saw a vehicle make contact with a parked car before driving off.

Officers were able to locate the vehicle in question parked in a driveway with a man asleep in the driver’s seat.

The vehicle showed damage from the collision, with the driver being arrested after providing a breath sample that was close to four times over the legal limit. The driver in question was issued a driving probation and released with impaired driver charges pending.

VicPD is asking anyone else who saw the incident to reach out to police with potential footage of the crash or witness accounts via the E-Comm Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

In partnership with ICBC, VicPD has launched the Impaired Driving Counterattack that targets impaired drivers during the holidays. Officers will be performing roadblocks across Victoria and Esquimalt in addition to the Patrol division.

Since the campaign began last week, VicPD has taken seven impaired drivers off the roads.
