B.C. Ferries has cancelled 12:45 pm Queen of New Westminster sailing out of Duke Point because of adverse weather.

The 10:00 am sailing from Comox and return sailing from Powell River at 11:50 a.m. is also cancelled.

Original Story: Sailings between Duke Point and Tsawwassen are cancelled because of mechanical difficulty on the B.C. Ferries’ vessel Queen of Coquitlam.

The problem is with the boat’s propellor pitch and a passenger onboard told CHEK news it broke down five kilometres from Duke Point on the first sailing at 5:15 am.

Deborah Marshall from B.C. Ferries says with one berth at Duke Point, the Queen of Coquitlam will be diverted to Departure Bay and should arrive there at 9:30 am.

Passengers currently stranded on the boat will be taken off the vessel and can board a sailing to Horseshoe Bay on the Queen of Cowichan at 10:30 am.

The Queen of Coquitlam sailings for 10:15 am and out of Tsawwassen at 12:45 p.m. are cancelled while the mechanical issue is worked on.

High winds have forced other cancellations for B.C. Ferries, with routes between Comox and Powell River and Texada Island and Powell River shut down.

Adverse weather is also affecting the Salish Raven, with a 47-minute delay for service between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands.
