Two men from Nanaimo appeared in court Wednesday after allegedly robbing three teenage boys Tuesday morning.

RCMP say 19-year-old Zachary Edward Gordon and 31-year-old Sheldon Brent Grant were both charged with one count of robbery.

Gordon was also charged with wearing a mask while committing an indictable offence and several breach of condition charges and remains in custody.

Grant was released on a recognizance.

Police say the incident happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday in a business parking lot in the 4100 block of Departure Bay Road.

The teenagers told police two males with their faces covered came up to them, with one carrying a metal baton-like object and demanded they give up their belongings.

After taking the backpacks, the two suspects then left in a vehicle that was parked nearby.

One of the youths was able to provide a license plate number to police when calling 911 and the vehicle was found less than an hour later near Pryde Avenue.

Two males who matched the provided description were arrested.

The teenagers got their belongings back and were not injured during the robbery.

Gordon and Grant are due back in Nanaimo Provincial court April 10.
