UPDATE: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has lifted all tsunami advisories following a large earthquake off the coast of Honduras.

Original Story:

A powerful preliminary magnitude 7.6 earthquake has struck the Caribbean between Honduras and Cuba according to the US Geological Survey.

It was recorded at 10:52 local time (6:52 p.m. PST)  in the Caribbean Sea at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The quake struck in the sea about 202 kilometres northeast of Barra Patuca, Honduras, and 303 kilometres southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands.

There are no early reports of damage on land. The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center had warned of possible tsunami waves in an wide area but lifted all advisories shortly before 9 p.m. PST.
