Police say one driver was seriously injured after a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Cobble Hill Wednesday morning.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP were notified about the crash just after 11 a.m. at the Fisher Road and Trans-Canada Highway intersection.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates a driver in a Toyota SUV was travelling eastbound on Fisher Road when it was struck broadside on the driver portion of the vehicle by a driver in a Jeep Cherokee travelling southbound.
The driver of the Toyota received serious injuries and was transported via Air Ambulance for further medical assistance.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP members were assisted by BC Ambulance Service, Mill Bay Fire Rescue and RCMP South Island Traffic Services and an RCMP Collision Analyst.
These types of collisions happen in a split second, and we urge anyone who is out driving to drive cautiously through all intersections
Sgt. Tim Desaulniers, Shawnigan Lake RCMP Detachment commander, said in a statement.
The investigation will continue for some time before a determination will be made on charges, if any, are appropriate in this collision
Shawnigan Lake RCMP are requesting anyone who they haven’t yet spoken to who may have witnessed this collision, or has dashcam footage of it, to contact the Shawnigan Lake RCMP Detachment at 250-743-5514
A stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway between Fisher Road and Hutchinson Road, near Cobble Hill, was closed for around three hours due to the crash but has since reopened.
