Giusseppe Lafauci is cautiously reopening his family business that’s been a summertime staple in Parksville for 32 years.

It has never faced a year like this before.

“We don’t know what’s coming,” said Giusseppe co-owner of Paradise Adventure Resort & RV Park.

“We don’t know what the future holds,” said Susan Lafauci, who owns the resort with her husband.

The Lafaucis typically welcome thousands of guests each May long weekend at their Parksville Adventure resort. which is filled with mini-golf, bumper boats, an arcade, RV park and hotel.

After two months closed in the wake of COVID-19, they plan to try a reopening of their mini-golf course Friday.

“Friday hopefully we can open up slowly,” said Giusseppe.

“We are nervously putting our feet in the water,” said Susan.

“But it has to start sometimee.”

With restrictions easing at outdoor parks and BC’s COVID-19 cases remaining low, the couple said it feels like maybe the time is now to do that.

“This weekend we’ll give it a try see how it goes,” said Giusseppe.

It’s a sentiment that many others in the tourism reliant community haven’t acted on yet.

Many businesses are waiting to see how those that do reopen fare, after going to the expense of staffing.

“Everyone’s just waiting on tenterhooks to find out what to do,” said Susan.
