UPDATE: The BC Coroner’s Service confirms it has been called to the scene of a late afternoon crash on Highway 19 near Nanoose Bay but could not offer any further details on the incident.
A highway crash backed up traffic near Nanoose Bay Friday evening.
According to Drive BC, the collision occurred at Highway 19 about three kilometres south of the intersection with Northwest Bay Road.
The Nanoose Bay Fire Department said the crash occurred at Hillview Road just before 4 p.m.
Emergency crews have opened one lane in each direction. Drive BC said the vehicle incident has been cleared.
UPDATE – OPENED – #BCHwy19 – vehicle incident 3 km south of Northwest Bay Road has cleared, crews have opened one lane in each direction. Expect heavy delays due to congestion.

There are reports that traffic congestion stretches to Nanaimo.
