British Columbia health officials reported 33 new cases of COVID-19 for the entire province on Tuesday, with three linked to the Island Health region.

In a statement released to the media, Dr. Bonnie Henry says that 66 are in hospital with 14 people in critical care as a result of the virus. There are currently 639 active cases in British Columbia.

Since Monday’s numbers, there have been 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, five in the Fraser Health region, three in the Island Health region, 13 in the Interior Health region, one in the Northern Health region and one case of a person who resides outside of Canada.

There were zero additional deaths related to the virus on Tuesday. This keeps the provincial death total over the course of the pandemic to 1,760 and means there has only been one death from the virus in the past week.

Also as of Tuesday, the total number of cases in British Columbia over the course of the pandemic has reached 148,187.

Health officials say that 80.2 per cent of all eligible British Columbians 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, which totals 3,470,198 residents.

In addition, 49.1 per cent of all eligible people 12 and older have received their second dose, totalling 2,125,179 residents.

In total, 5,805,541 doses of all approved vaccines in British Columbia have been administered since December 2020.

Island Health

There are currently 22 active cases — three in the North Island, eight in the Central Island, and 11 in the South Island — and two people in hospital, one of whom is in critical care, on Vancouver Island.

Although active cases on the Island are up about 70 per cent since July 5, they are down 85 per cent since May 13.

In the past 24 hours, there were 323 new COVID-19 tests performed and 10,601 doses of vaccine administered on Vancouver Island. Of the doses administered 48 were AstraZeneca, 2,922 were Moderna and 7,631 doses were Pfizer.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 5,119 cases reported, 41 deaths, and 255 total hospitalizations, 5,119 recoveries, and 953,775 doses of vaccine administered on Vancouver Island.
