There were tense moments on a Victoria street early Tuesday afternoon, as heavily armed police arrested four people, all while neighbours looked on. Keith Vass reports.

Guns drawn, Victoria police ordered a man to his knees in the middle of Doncaster Drive Tuesday afternoon and moveed in to make an arrest.

Leading him away while other officers moved into position around the house near Hillside Mall.

The heavy response was prompted by a pair of 9-1-1 calls that came in just after noon.

One reported an armed man in the area, the second stated there was an armed robbery in progress at the house at the center of attention.

While stunned neighbours, including children, peered out at the dramatic scene unfolding in front of them.

Police then ordered the people inside the house out and one by one they emerged and were all placed in handcuffs and held.

In total four people were taken into custody before Emergency Response Team members and a canine team moved in to search the house.

“ERT was utilized to make sure the house was safe after the occupants were removed which it was deemed to be safe,” said Const. Matt Rutherford, spokesperson for Victoria Police.

And once it was deemed safe, three of the four people that had been arrested, were released.

Police say the one who remains in custody is being held over outstanding warrants, not related to what unfolded Tuesday.

So far there are no charges, while police try to untangle the whole situation.

“Two weapons located at the residence were seized and the investigation is ongoing and we’re trying to determine what exactly happened,” said Rutherford.
