A teenager had his vehicle impounded after he was caught going more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit, police say.

According to the Oak Bay Police Department, officers clocked a 2018 Alpha Romeo Stelvio going 106 km/h along Foul Bay Road, where the posted speed limit is 50 km/h, on Sept. 16.

Police say the driver behind the wheel was an 18-year-old novice driver who had two with him when he was caught.

As a result, Oak Bay PD impounded the Alpha Romeo for seven days and issued the 18-year-old man a $586 ticket, which included a $368 fine for excessive speed, a $109 fine for driving contrary to restrictions, and another $109 fine for failure to display an “N” on his vehicle.
