An allegedly impaired motorist with a flat tire was caught going more than 90 kilometres over the speed limit in Oak Bay.

According to an Oak Bay Police Department press release, one of their officers clocked a 2002 Mercedes-Benz C240 sedan going 142 km/h on Foul Bay Road — where the posted speed limit is 50 km/h — at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 4.

Police say the motorist then turned onto a side road, hit a curb, and then drove into a cul-de-sac where the officer stopped him and noticed the driver’s side tire was flat and that the rim was damaged.

Oak Bay PD says the officer detected “liquor indicia” and administered an approved screening device (ASD) test, which returned a “fail” reading.

As a result, the motorist, a 38-year-old man, was issued a 90-day immediate driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was also issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and was given a $483 fine.
