WATCH: Sixteen-year-old Kayla Young was gifted a weekend trip to the Canada Sevens amidst her battle with cancer, and was able to meet members of the Canadian women’s rugby sevens team in the process.

Growing up in Prince George, Kayla found her passion for rugby in middle school. In March, Kayla and her family were given the devastating news, that she had acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Residing at the BC Children’s Hospital for the time being, Kayla was gifted a trip to the Canada Sevens in Langford through donations from organizations on the mainland and the island.

“Being out here today just makes me feel like rugby is this big community that can do wonders,” Young says.

“It doesn’t matter where you are in the world people are going to , you’re going to make friends and find people to talk to no matter what and I think that’s what’s important about rugby is that it’s like this worldwide family that doesn’t give up on each other.”
