A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries on Monday night after falling from a railway trestle.

It happened near Cumberland on the Trent River.

Someone reported hearing noises near the trestle around 9:30 p.m.

When police arrived, they found an injured man who appeared to be in his 40’s lying in the boulders beside the river below.

Officers suspect he had fallen over 24 metres or 80 feet and may have been lying there for some time.

“He was only a couple feet from the river and he fell on some huge boulders,” said Chief Mike Williamson of Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department.

“Its just unbelievable that he’s alive, but he had some broken bones and some head injuries.”

Comox Valley Search and Rescue also attended.

No foul play is suspected in the incident.
