Woman found dead in Beacon Hill Park was victim of homicide: police
File.

A woman found dead in Beacon Hill Park last week was the victim of homicide, investigators say.

Officers were called to the south side of the park just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3 for a report of an unresponsive woman.

Paramedics tried to revive her using CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, Victoria police confirmed that the island’s homicide investigators, the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU), have taken over the case.

VIIMCU is assessing any risk to public safety but believe at the time, the general public isn’t at risk.

The unit is now asking for anyone who was in the following areas between 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3 and 5 a.m on Wednesday, March 4 to contact them at 250-380-6211:

  • Lower Cook Street near Beacon Hill Park
  • Lower Douglas Street near Beacon Hill Park
  • Dallas Road between Douglas Street and St Charles Street
  • The area of Fort Street and Foul Bay Road

It’s specifically looking for dashboard camera footage from any of the following locations:

Police say the death is not linked to a fatal vehicle fire in Beacon Hill Park that occurred two days later, which major crimes investigators are also looking into.
