A wind warning has been issued for most of Vancouver Island, with the exception in inland regions such as the Alberni Valley, as an intense low pressure system crosses the south coast on Saturday.

Hardest hit will be the northern tip of the island, with southeast winds to 90 kilometers and hour early Saturday morning, gusting to 110 km/h. Winds will subside late afternoon for that region.

On the west coast, southeast winds will rapidly rise to 80 kilometers an hour Saturday morning, gusting to 100 km/h over exposed coastal sections. Winds will ease Saturday afternoon in the wake of the front.

East Vancouver Island will see southeast winds rise to 70 km/h, gusting to 90 km/h, as the intense front crosses that region Saturday morning. Winds will ease later in the day Saturday.

Southern tip of the Island, including Greater Victoria, can expect southeast winds to 70 km/h by mid-morning Saturday, with gusts to 90. The winds will subside late afternoon Saturday.

Along with the intense winds, Vancouver Islanders can expect rain throughout the day tomorrow, easing to showers Sunday.
