A road on Salt Spring Island that has been closed following heavy rain at the start of this month will likely be out for another four to five weeks.

The 200-block of Stewart Road has been closed in both directions since around Jan. 4 and Mainroad says the damage is still being assessed by crews.

The road is one of the connections between areas in the south like Fulford Harbour to the north where the community of Ganges is.

Although, residents are able to use detours through roads like Fulford-Ganges Road.

Some of the largest rainfall amounts hit Vancouver Island during the storm, with up to 120 millimetres of rain being recorded on parts of the south Island

Salt Spring and other areas of the south coast are also still recovering from the major wind storm that swept through in December.

Mainroads says they will update the Ministry of Transportation and other stakeholders as progress is made.
