The Canadian Coast Guard said a small fuel leak near Quadra Island on Tuesday has been contained.

According to the Canadian Coast Guard, a 54 -metre (176 foot) fishing vessel was reported to be sinking off April Point at Quadra Island. Divers were reportedly cleaning the exterior of the salmon trawler underwater when a seal was punctured.

A small sheen was seen inside the boomed-off area. The coast guard said this was likely due to the de-watering of the engine room.

The hole in the vessel has been patched and the coast guard said the vessel is afloat and stable. It is not showing any more signs of leaking.

The vessel’s owner is working with the coast guard and the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation.
